Kim Jae-Sung is a hard-working midfielder who possesses the ability to deliver accurate crosses from the right flank or score directly from free-kicks. He can operate as a central midfielder or a right winger, providing more options in middle of the park for coach Huh Jung-Moo.
After making consistent progress in three seasons in the K-League with Jeju United, Kim joined then defending champions Pohang Steelers in 2008. Having established himself at the Steelyard during the FA Cup winning season, the 26-year-old went on to play a pivotal role as the Steelers won the AFC Champions League and finished third at the FIFA Club World Cup last year. He provided the inch-perfect free-kick to set up Kim Hyung-Il’s header that sealed a 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabian giants Al Ittihad in the continental final in Tokyo, before taking part in two matches during the world championship in UAE.
Kim subsequently won his first cap in a friendly with Zambia in January, and then scored his first international goal in a 1-0 win over Latvia. But it was at the EAFF East Asian Championship in February where he impressed coach Huh Jung-Moo, by sealing a 3-1 victory against arch-rivals Japan with a brilliant solo effort from the edge of the area.
Now in his third season with the Asian champions, the slim midfielder is looking forward to taking part in another international tournament when the 2010 FIFA World Cup South AfricaÔ kicks off this summer.
